What is ADAS calibration?
ADAS — Advanced Driver Assistance Systems — are the cameras and radar sensors behind features like lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring and parking cameras. Each sensor has to be aimed at an exact angle. ADAS calibration is the process of re-aiming and re-teaching those sensors so the car "sees" the road correctly. Even a small misalignment can mean late braking, false warnings or a lane-keep system that steers at the wrong moment.
When your car needs ADAS calibration
- Windshield replacement — the forward camera is mounted on or near the glass
- Front or rear bumper repair or replacement — radar units sit behind the bumpers
- Wheel alignment, suspension or ride-height changes
- Side mirror replacement — blind-spot cameras and sensors are often in the mirrors
- Any collision or body repair, even a minor one
- A driver-assist warning on the dashboard, or features that behave strangely
Our ADAS calibration service
- Front camera calibration — lane-keep, traffic sign recognition, emergency braking
- Radar calibration — adaptive cruise control and collision warning
- Blind-spot sensor alignment
- Reversing and 360° surround-view camera calibration
- Static and dynamic calibration — target-board calibration in the bay and road-driven calibration, depending on what your car requires
- Pre- and post-calibration scan to confirm no fault codes remain
Calibration verified before the car leaves
Every ADAS, radar, mirror and camera job at our garage is re-tested before the car goes back to the customer. We scan the systems before we start, carry out the calibration the car's manufacturer specifies, then scan again and check the features work as they should. Many garages skip calibration after bodywork or windshield jobs because the fault isn't visible — we treat it as part of the repair.
If an ABS or airbag light is also on, see our ABS & airbag repair service. For the full background, read when ADAS calibration is actually required.
